The actions to be taken to ensure the sustainability of the Earth’s atmosphere, vital for human life, would be:

1. Drastically reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions:

• Global energy transition: Rapidly abandon fossil fuels (coal, oil, gas) in favor of renewable energies (solar, wind, hydroelectric, geothermal).

• Energy efficiency: Improve the insulation of buildings, use energy-efficient household appliances, favor public transport and soft modes of transport (bicycle, walking).

• Energy sobriety: Reduce our overall energy consumption, favor local and seasonal consumption, limit waste.

2. Protect and restore natural carbon sinks:

• Combat deforestation: Protect existing forests, reforest degraded areas, promote sustainable forest management.

• Develop sustainable agriculture: Promote agricultural practices that store carbon in soils (agroforestry, conservation agriculture).

• Protect the oceans: Combat marine pollution, restore coastal ecosystems (mangroves, seagrass beds) that absorb CO2.

3. Act on other greenhouse gases:

• Reduce methane emissions: Combat methane leaks linked to the exploitation of fossil fuels, improve organic waste management, reduce meat consumption.

• Limit the use of nitrogen fertilizers: Use fertilizers more efficiently, develop organic farming.

4. Adapting to climate change:

• Anticipating impacts: Preparing populations and infrastructure for the consequences of climate change (extreme weather events, rising sea levels, droughts).

• Developing solutions: Setting up early warning systems, adapting agricultural practices, building resilient infrastructure.

5. Promoting responsible consumption:

• Reducing our ecological footprint: Adopting a more sober lifestyle, consuming less and better, favoring sustainable and local products.

• Fighting waste: Avoiding food waste, repairing objects instead of throwing them away, favoring reuse and recycling.

6. Raising awareness and educating:

• Informing the public: Communicating about climate issues, existing solutions and possible individual actions.

• Educating younger generations: Integrating environmental and sustainable development education into school curricula.

7. Act at the political level:

• Implement ambitious policies: Set GHG emission reduction targets, regulate polluting activities, support renewable energies.

• Cooperate at the international level: Strengthen international climate agreements, help developing countries cope with climate change.

It is crucial to act now, in a coordinated manner and at all levels (individual, collective, political), to ensure the sustainability of the Earth’s atmosphere and a viable future for humanity.
